Our Kindergarten teachers work diligently to plan and facilitate a literacy block that meets the unique needs of your students to align with our mission here at Eastside. This morning block of time includes a Read Aloud, Familiar Reading, Small Group Instruction, and Literacy Centers.

The focus of a read aloud is for the teacher to model fluency and comprehension strategies for students. They listen and answer questions and make predictions.

During center rotations, students work in differentiated centers and meet with the teacher for small group instruction on letter naming, phonemic awareness, path of movement, among other concepts all dependent on what the needs are in the classroom. These groups are fluid and student centered. While in other centers, students work together in cooperative groups to practice skills already learned in classroom instruction.
