Holiday Reading for Students

We are looking forward to the Winter Break for some rest, relaxation, and family time but we don’t want to forget how important reading is even when we are out of school. Because of this, your student will be coming home (some went home yesterday) with a book specially selected by Mrs. Dunlap and Mrs. Manning for their holiday reading! There is also a note accompanying the book with some questions you all can discuss as you read together or after your student reads independently.

Our Kindergarten and First grade students will read about Curious George and his Christmas adventures in Merry Christmas, Curious George!

Second graders will learn all about penguins in a nonfiction text, Penguins! A link to National Geographic Kids has lots of fun information about penguins to keep the learning going.

Third grade will dive into a Magic Treehouse adventure mystery. They can read a chapter a day or so and this will have them complete the entire book over the break! There are some great opportunities to discuss meaning and character and setting, among other things!

Fourth and Fifth grade will read the classic, Robin Hood. On their page, there is a link to a website where you student can build a comic strip or storyboard online to retell the story or to change up some to create an alternate ending or setting change.

We are looking forward to seeing your students back in January and hearing all about their reading!
