The Arkansas Department of Education has a focus on reading instruction this year and it is being implemented by the Science of Reading. Literacy instruction in classrooms will focus on key components that are research based, and directly tied to the science of reading.

Coaches from around the state are coming in to classrooms in order to support teachers during the implementation stage of RISE. Greenbrier is extremely lucky because Mrs. Stephanie Worthey, the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education, is a trained coach in the Science of Reading. She has come into EES to support teachers focusing on Shared Reading, Phonics, Reading groups, Vocabulary, and Writing. Mrs. Worthey has come and visited Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. Students in these classrooms have loved having Mrs. Worthey as a helper in the classroom.

Literacy instruction is one of the most important parts of the day, and with the strategic implementation of the Science of Reading we will be preparing students for a successful school career.
