Greenbrier School District was approved by the Arkansas Department of Education to implement a plan for an alternate method of instruction to be used on days if and when school is closed due to exceptional or emergency circumstances, including but not limited to winter weather. By implementing the Alternate Methods of Instruction plan, the Greenbrier School District strives to continue student learning in an effective and efficient manner while maintaining the 2019-2020 school calendar. This will prevent as much as possible additional school days being added to the end of the school year. The goal of the plan is to embed learning activities focused on extending current lessons/topics, reinforcement of critical learning standards, enrichment activities, or support for skills that need further developed.
In the event of school closing, guardians of students in kindergarten - 2nd grade will access learning activities through their school's website under the menu heading "AMI (Alternate Method of Instruction)" Students in 3rd-5th grades will access their learning activities through each of their teachers' Google Classrooms with the activities labeled "AMI (Alternate Method of Instruction) Day 1, AMI Day 2," etc., with the actual dates to be provided by teachers as soon as possible after the closing is announced (see below).
Additionally, when at all possible, students who do not have access to technology and/or a wireless connection will be provided with hard copies of the learning activities labeled "AMI Day 1, AMI Day 2," etc, to be completed in the event of a school closing. Teachers will be accessible for questions, clarification, and feedback through Gmail throughout the dismissed days 7:40-3:40. To access teachers via email, use the "staff directory" link on your school's website and/or contact them via Google Classroom. If in the circumstance that parents or students have difficulty communicating with teachers on an AMI day, they may communicate with their school administration as well.
Listed below are the “Plan for the Week” for Each Grade Level with the schedule and times. This schedule is for students who are participating online. Teachers will be sending the links through google classroom and dojo as well. If you receive paper copies they will be mailed out on Mondays and then will need to be turned into the bin that is located outside the school.
AMI Day Technology Instructions 3rd-5th Grade
Assignments will be posted on google classroom from each teacher in 3rd-5th grade. The following steps will help you access google classroom from home.
Open up your web browser (ex. google chrome, internet explorer, safari) on your desktop, laptop, chromebook, ipad, or smartphone.
Type “google classroom” in your search bar.
Click on google classroom and sign in.
Students will have to enter their email and password. Their email will be their last name, first name, and the last two numbers of the year they graduate (ex. firstname.lastname@example.org).
Once google classroom is open, students will need to click on each teacher’s name to find their assignments that will be labeled as AMI Day 1, AMI Day 2, etc.
Students need to complete the assignments by the end of the snow day.
